Blogging revisited

Hi Guys - Ok, this would not be up except for the help of Nicole. She is TENACIOUS when it comes to sorting out computer problems!!  Somehow Lori and Blayne had editing rights on my blog, not me (long story), but I after much persistence Nicole figured out how to make me the owner again. (thank you). This is a blog I set up six years ago (are you impressed?  Cutting edge Rowe!) before I started my year's sabbatical.  I started with great enthusiasm but petered out after three months as it did not appear that anyone was following it. (I later found that some classes were, but in a creeper rather than responder mode).  I started it up again on my 3 month leave last year but there was a glitch in the system (see above) so Lori created a Kidblog and I sent photos and travel chat to the kids on that. They responded regularly.
Anyway, I digress...  I found this morning's walk-around really interesting and picked up a couple of neat ideas to steal (ie. using 'Angry Birds' characters to make 3D shapes. more music in the classroom). Someone suggested that it may have been better to switch the morning with the afternoon activities as creating a blog would probably work better with a morning brain. I believe the most positive experience of the day was when I picked up one of the flutes that Kevin had set up.  After a few false starts, I was able to make a wee bit of music (I played the flute in highschool) and am inspired to re-learn the notes this summer.  Kevin has kindly agreed that I can borrow an instrument and instruction book. Anyway, yadda, yadda, yadda - you stopped reading a long time ago, didn't you, Nicole? - have a great weekend all. rowe

Ms. Rowe in Antigua

Hola 2/3A!  Thanks you for writing to me! This photo is the baby at my hostel.  His name is Adolphito (that means "little Adolpho").  The lady holding him is his abulla. I think some of you know that word from watching 'Dora the Explorer'.  'Abulla' is Spanish for 'grandmother'. from Ms Rowe

Hola!  I love this firetruck, don't you?

This is my teacher, Maria Josepha. I learned some Spanish here in this garden. It would not be fun sitting outside in Erin right now, would it?!  I think it is very hard to remember the Spanish words so I must keep practising. I will look in my dictionary every day and learn one new word.

This is a school in a village nearby. I took a 'camioneta' to get there. That is what the people here call their buses that are painted lots of different colours. The children in the photo are doing PE. Adios for now. I have asked Mr. Primeau to post these photos because it is not working very well for me.  Senor Primeau es el bueno amigo!  from Ms Rowe

I Love Antigua!

Hey, I think I sorted out my blog problem (accept I'm not exactly sure what I did to make it work this time).  Anyway, I will go to an Internet cafe tomorrow and try to post a photo too.  I really love this beautiful old town where I am going to school.  I even love going to school again but it is not easy for me. I keep forgetting the Spanish words!  Today I learned Spanish in the morning and in the afternoon my teacher showed the students how to cook a special tortilla filled with salsa and wrapped inside a corn husk.  I had one for lunch and for dinner I went to the market and bought an orange and big piece of watermelon for 50 cents, an avocado fot 14 cents and a strawberry milkshake (strawberries and milk) for 75 cents.  There is a lot of fruit for sale in Guatemala!

Am I in Mr Primeau?

Testing 1, 2, 3 ...

Ms. Rowe's First on the Road Blog

Hola mas amigos!  I am now in Guatemala!  I am having a small problem (una pequeno problema) with my blog so Mr. Primeau's name may appear at the bottom. I asked him to post this.
I am trying to learn Spanish. It is very hard but fun. I spend 4 hours each morning speaking with my teacher. We also practise with the other students. I am learning in a beautiful park here so you know it is not cold!
I will study all week and then on Sunday go to build stoves. Thank you again to all the students and teachers at Erin for donating so much money. We donated enough for 3 stoves. Wow!  The people who I told are so happy!  Adios. Ms Rowe
